Genetic Engineering
I believe that there should be no such thing as genetic engineering.   I believe this because of all of the negative things that come with this idea. Some of these negative things include, discrimination, violence, “playing god” if you would, and the idea that “perfection” is required in order to be a normal human being. If the ability to alter a child’s appearance or genetic DNA by the parents is an option and the parents decide to go through with it, I think that the parents shouldn’t be able to have kids. If a parent is really that unhappy with how their child turned out, then they should not be parents. And I don’t believe this because of just the parents’ thoughts about their child. I also believe that there should be no such things as genetic engineering because of the cost. The money that people would put into genetic engineering could do so much more for that child then just changing their appearance. The $5,000 to $150,000 that the parents would spend could go towards their child’s college fund or pay the bills that the family has.   On top of all that, think of all the discrimination that would take place if this was actually possible. If this was actually possible the idea of a normal human being would be someone who was genetically altered.   Therefore, the kids who are not genetically altered are most likely going to get bullied because of their situation. Although I strongly believe that genetic engineering should never become a possibility, I will give people who believe in this the benefit of the doubt. The only positive thing I see in being able to genetically alter a child is the ability to take away any harmful diseases that a child might be born with. If genetically altering a child means taking that disease away then I’m fine with that. But, what happens if you take away one disease that we already know how to cure and then that child somehow is diagnosed with a different unknown disease later on in life? All in all I...
