Equality and Valuing Diversity

Explain own responsibility for promoting equality and valuing diversity.

My responsibility for promoting equality and valuing diversity is to make sure everyone is treated in the same fair manner, all learners should be given the same chances within the learning environment and the salon. No one should be discriminated against for any reason such as their age, race or religion etc.
I promote equality with every learner by making sure they have the freedom of speech within training sessions and in the salon environment, this helps all learners to feel comfortable in their position and to be able to express their feelings and thoughts and enable them to gain confidence in the industry.  

Diversity means to embrace and celebrate the differences your learners may have such as cultural differences, religious beliefs, experiences and skills. Learners differences should not be seen as a negative trait. As a teacher I need to be able to understand the difference between direct discrimination and indirect discrimination.   If any issue was to arise in the learning environment or salon I would tackle this to suit the needs of the individuals involved. It is important to maintain clear communication and be polite to get the respect from the learners. It is unprofessional to use any form of negative body language or offensive language that could upset an individual.

When planning and delivery lessons I need to make sure the content is suitable to meet the requirements of all learning types to make sure no one is left out.
In the past I have had one learner who struggled with reading, during her online assessment I read the questions and answers to her which enabled her to have the same chance of passing the assessment as all of the other learners.
