Dhammacakka Pavattana Sutta

The setting in motion of the Dhammacakka Pavattana Sutta is a landmark in the history of mankind. In this Sutta the Buddha discusses the Middle Way, the Noble Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths.

“Dhammacakka” can be translated as “Dhamma-Wheel” it is a Buddhist symbol referring to the Buddha’s teaching of the path to enlightenment. “Pavattana” can be translated as “rolling” or “setting in motion.”

The wheel is one of the most powerful devices ever invented by man and has been used through the ages as a device for the release from burdens of life, to assist in harnessing the energy of the world, and to reach a destination with ease. The Dhamma is the teaching of the Buddha, the truth, understanding, and wisdom, which leads the people who practice it to the goal of cessation of all suffering.

When the Buddha taught the Dhammacakka Pavattana Sutta he set in motion the Wheel of Dhamma, which continues to turn to this present day and continues to ease the inherent sufferings of life, assists us spiritually to harness the energy of good in the world, and to attain happiness with ease. It continues to shine a light to the world so that those with the eye of wisdom can see the way.

This is why the Dhammacakka Pavattana Sutta is a landmark in the history of mankind, because with this Sutta the Wheel of the Dhamma had been set in motion by the Blessed One, a wheel which cannot be stopped by any recluse or Brahmin or Deva or Mara or by anyone in the world.
