Depression/Aware

Depression/Aware
Aware Defeat Depression, is the only charity working exclusively for people with depression across Northern Ireland. They were recognised by GSK and Kings Fund in May 2014 when they won a GSK IMPACT Award.   They are one of only ten winners throughout the UK and stood out for their work in helping to increase understanding of how to prevent mental illness and support people with depression into their recovery.
Aware Defeat Depression has been established since 1996 to support all people in Northern Ireland who is affected with depression.   They have two offices.   The first office was opened in Derry/Londonderry and now opened a second office in Duncairn Gardens, Belfast where the helpline is based.   They also have an established network of over 20 support groups in rural and urban areas across the country, which are run by trained volunteers.   The trained, caring and dedicated volunteers who run the support groups and helpline began as service users with the experience of depression so they are giving back to the people with excellent high counselling and understanding.   In my opinion, This Aware Defeat Depression charity really works and supports the people because of the reflective practice shown by the volunteers.
The Support Groups are incredible highly trained volunteers, who help support illnesses,
