CYP 3.1   UNDERSTAND CHILD AND YOUNG PERSON DEVELOPMENT
 
TASK 1   UNDERSTAND THE EXPECTED PATTERN OF DEVELOPMENT   FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE FROM BIRTH TO 19 YEARS

1.1 Explain the sequence and rate of each aspect of development from birth to 19 years.

The time between birth and the 19th birthday is a time of a tremendeous changes. A child from being defenseless and dependant of others becomes an entirely self-contained unit. Stepping into adulthood a person has a lot of abilities that allow him not only to survive but also to become a successful part of society.
Child development can be presented in several aspects - physical development, communication and language development, intellectual and cognitive development and social and moral development. Some abilities person acquires automatically, others are affected by loved ones and the close environment. While everyone develop at its own pace and two children of the same age may be at a slightly different stage, we can be distinguish several age groups, in which there is a major change.
 
Physical development
Years 0-3
This is a time of a dramatic and rapid physiacal development. During the first few months of their lives, babies will have very little control of their bodies. At the age of around 4 months reflexes which a child needs to survive start to disappear. A baby can hold a small object, although he can not track it with sight. Child's senses are developing - hearing gets sharper, sight starts to become clearer. At about 6-7 months old a child is able to sit stably, and at about one year is able to walk, although often still insecure and wobbly. Visual motor coordination improves and a child is able to point what he is interested in. The child likes to move, enjoying his freedom and abilities.
