DEVELOP PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION PRACTICE IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE OR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S WORK SETTINGS

The purpose of this unit is to assess knowledge, understanding and skills required to undertake professional supervision of others.
      1.1 Analyse the principles, scope and purpose of professional supervision

The fundamental basic principle of supervision is a professional relationship that regulates an opportunity to discuss / reflect upon an activity in regards to work practice or learning. Indeed the activity can be used to regulate and study work performance or to identify areas of need within the work place setting also. This however is just the basic outline research has showed me the model has far reaching implications and uses.
The amount of information that has been written in regards to supervisions falls across many professions from psychologists, counsellors, therapists and a myriad of other professionals that have disseminated the process to understand the way in which it can be used successfully. In this respect breaking the supervision format down and analysing the principles is a difficult question to answer, If I think about the job role in which I will be using supervision it can be classed as a tool to measure work practice but also an opportunity for discussion surrounding and in relation to work topics.
The scope of supervision within a professional context is also multi-faceted, it can be used in practical terms for example, until you’ve had supervision with this working method you won’t be able to work autonomously. Supervisions can also be used to reflect upon a task that has been completed either to ensure learning or good practice. It may also be used to ensure all the staff are being equally treated, supported and developed. There may also be organisational goals that can be interwoven into supervisions.
