COMMUNICATION

REFLECT ON COMMUNIACTION WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF STAFF ,SUCH AS HAND OVER. WHAT   ENABLED GOOD COMMUNICATION IN THIS INSTANT .DID ANYONE INTERUPT DURING THIS HAND OVER AND HOW WAS IT HANDLED

The handover is given by the senior carer to another senior before the up coming shift starts. The senior staff whom was given the hand over will then hand over to the rest of the staff who are just about to start .The hand over is given in the staff room and the senior mentoning a resident and tell us if there are any changes or needs to be done for the resident for that shift / day.The rest of the staff will then write own important information on to their note pads so they wont forget .Discussions will then occur between the staff and tell the senior information which he/she may not have been told previously which he/she or have forgotten. These discussions will go on until every resident and important information has been hand over.
If someone comes in the staff room eg:maintainance staff,we would stop the hand over and only continue when they leave the room .If they stay in the staff room longer ,the senior would ask them to leave the room politely and let us finish the handover.
Upon finishing the handover ,we are allocated in to bays and discuss   break times. The rest of the staff will then give personal care to individuals or have a chat with them or do activities with them. The staff communicates amongs themselves eg: someone will volunteer to give someone a bath ,feed ,walk with them out in the garden etc...
If there is an accident and or someone needs help and the resident requires two staff to be attended to ,we communicate through a call bell system where we pull a cord attached in a call system and the mobile phones (company ones)that the staff carry with them throughout the shift ,the bell will constantly ring unless answered.
