1.1 Explain the relevance of the communication cycle for effective communication in the management

a) What is communication


Communication is the simple act of transferring information from one place to another.   Senders and receivers are of vital importance for the success of the communication process.   Communication comes in various forms and more than one form may occur at any time.   The different categories of communication are:


  - Verbal communication
    face to face, telephone, radio, television


  - Non-verbal communication
    body language, gestures, how we dress or act


  - Written communication
    letters, e-mails, books, magazines, internet


  - Visual communication
    graphs, charts, maps, logos

Within our office setting, communication plays an important role too.   Team members are required to communicate effectively and appropriately, from listening to explaining, from understanding to conveying, and they need to use these skills in any given situation on a daily basis within the context of their work.

b) What is the communication cycle

The survival of the human race rests on its ability to communicate.

Efficient communication is a fundamental part of our functioning. It may be also said that communication is an art.   It is also known to be a skill that only a few possess.

To be able to communicate effectively is a quality that enhances your personality.

The entire process of communication:

  - begins with the conceptualizing of the desired message;
  - which is then communicated to the right person, and presumably at the right time;
  - which is then followed by the interpretation of, and responding to the message received.

The concept of the communication cycle has been developed for the sender and receiver of the message, to work on communication, by way of a two-way feedback system.

Primarily, this is a structure which explains the simplest manner in which we communicate.

This cycle involves:
