Abstract
Human service professionals are faced with ethical and legal decisions every day. It is important that as professionals we know what the ethical standards are as well as what legal ramifications can be taken as a result of our decisions. This paper will begin with a description of a case scenario with ethical and legal issues that require actions to be taken by the professional. This paper will then provide a description of what the professionals need to do in order to fulfill their legal and ethical obligations.

Scenario Description

In the mental health scenario we have a 31 year old mother with three children. The mother reports feeling anxious lately and reports consuming alcohol a few nights a week. She also reports the inability to sleep and worrying that something bad is going to happen. Other professionals working with her and the children have reported observing different and odd behavior in the mom and the children.   The family works with a counselor, social worker, psychologist, and a child therapist.
