Assignment 5001: Personal Development as a Manager and Leader

Introduction


This assignment focuses upon the importance of personal development in managers and leaders. It covers the theory around self-development in achieving organisational objectives, and discusses some of the tools that exist to help to put this into practice, particularly around self-awareness techniques.

It includes specific reference to my role within my organisation, with an assessment of my strengths and development needs, and the production of a Personal Development Plan to aid my development.

The assignment concludes with an assessment of health and safety and my role in ensuring that my organisation makes every effort to protect its staff and resources.

The importance of continual self-development in achieving organisational objectives.

One of the key assets an organisation has is its staff. The ability of people within organisations to perform effectively will be an important factor in the success of any organisation achieving its aims and objectives.

The role of managers and leaders is particularly important. As the key decision makers and influencers within organisations their ability to perform effectively is vital in ensuring that resources are well directed and managed.

It is therefore very important that managers and leaders have a commitment to continual self-development and awareness of the variety of methods and tools designed to aid personal effectiveness.

There are various techniques and models which have been developed to improve self-awareness and foster a mutual understanding between individuals and groups. These include Johari Window, and Myers Briggs, a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions.
