Ann Gravells (2006).
The teaching and training role encompasses all of the aspects outlined in the diagram above.
In your role, working with your mentor you will;
  1. Identify the needs of the student.
You will identify the student’s start point; identify their current level of ability and any support necessary for them to complete the program of learning. Once this is completed you will complete a “diagnostic” assessment of the student’s abilities, to identify the areas of strength and to highlight any areas of improvement. Along with this a learning styles assessment will be completed where you can identify how each student learns best. From this data you will then complete an “Individual Learning Plan” (ILP) which sets out the learner journey from “Induction” to “Achievement”.
  2. Planning and designing of the programme.
As this is a new programme you have the freedom to “make it your own” the only constraint being budget. You must design the programme around the requirements of the qualification ensuring criteria are met to satisfy the Awarding Organisation. You are free to use the experience and services of other departments as long as these are within the remit of the standards and are relevant to the qualification. An example of this would be; in a motor vehicle qualification using the engineering department to demonstrate skimming a brake disk on a lathe. Other professionals are available for support in terms of academic assistance that is outside of your teaching role, i.e.
