1. She’s meeting Jack at 3 o’clock.   (grammar)     Elementary

Analysis of Meaning:
In this sentence the Present Continuous Tense is used to indicate a planned future event.

Context:
1. Mary is very busy today.   In the morning, she is doing her homework. In the afternoon she is seeing her friend and at night she is going to the cinema.  

Checking Meaning:
Is she meeting George now? No.
Is it planned? Yes.
What has she planned? To meet Jack

Form:
She’s meeting Jack at 3 o’clock
Subject+present tense of the auxiliary verb to be+gerund

Phonology:
She’s   /ʃiːz/
She is going.= She’s going.
Point out that stress is on “go”

Anticipated Problems:
Meaning:   Ss may think that the action might be taking place right now because of the present continuous .   I will explain that the present continuous can be used for both the present and future depending on the time (indicator) and context.   I will give more sentences as examples.
Form:   Ss may use (‘s) for other subjects (I,you etc).   I will explain that, ‘s should only be used with the 3rd person singular: i.e. He’s, She’s and It’s


2. I’m used to getting up early.   (Upper- intermediate)
Analysis of Meaning:
The phrase, “to be used to” is used to point out something that I am accustomed to (something habitual).   The phrasal verb “to get up” has the same meaning as getting out of bed.   I am accustomed to getting out of bed early.  
1. Context: Every morning, at 4 0’clock, I practise Karate for two hours.   Then I get ready to go to work.

Checking Meaning:
Is it difficult for me to get up early?         No
Do I usually get out of bed early?         Yes
Did I get up regularly in the past or am I saying this now?         Now
Am I talking about the past or now?
Form:
I’m used to getting up early.
