1. Understand the pattern of development that would normally be expected for children and young people from birth to 19 years.

      1.1 Explain the sequence and rate of each aspect of development for children and young people from birth to 19 years old.
Physical development is usually very rapid early on in the child’s development. This can be noticed within just weeks of a baby being born, a baby will begin to start smiling and responding to sounds and things going on around them. By around the age of 6 months their muscle will begin to develop and they will then clasp on to objects of all kinds and will also put the objects in to their mouths.
Around the age of 12 months old they will begin to start moving around, the way a child of this age moves varies in many ways depending on the child. Some will be crawling or shuffling around on their bottom, other children will stand on their feet and use furniture to help them cruise along or an adults hand for support. Children of this age will be able to sit unaided. Objects at this age will become a lot more interesting and the child will show a lot of interest, passing the object between hands and inspecting the object, this also helps to improve their hand eye coordination. The first teeth tend to start appearing at around this age.
Between the age of 1 and 2 children will begin to start walking around, children will also begin to start exploring and playing with toys in more depth, attempting to build towers, and using toys and other objects to make different noises. Children will also begin to start showing a preference for a hand, for example when eating or drawing/painting a child will prefer to use their right hand over their left hand. Children will now enjoy to start feeding themselves starting off with finger foods and then progressing on to a spoon/fork, they will also use a cup to drink from using both hands.
