History 204
The author is trying to ask the readers of history how did Christianity survived with the years of different ruler.   Another question was how Constatinople stood the years it did with all the controversy at the time it was trying to be invade.   And the rise of peoples believe in Christianity and built stations where people were allow to confess and hear the sessions given by higher believers.
The authors gives the students of history the luxury of finding out the rulers who ruled and how they perceived Christianity in their time of power such as emperor Julian who tried to revive paganism which he was called at that time the Apostate, person who abandons a religion and returns to a previous belief.   If he was to return to paganism it would have created a civil war.   However, he was killed by the Persians in 363.   Constatinople was the center of where everything in the Christian religion started and were Constantine wanted to stay for centuries to come.   They built monasteries, basilicas, and shrines from one end of the empire to the other one.   They had bishops and the highest man in power known as the pope.
I think the students of history care a little more then what teachers or people in general think because history and how since the time of those who held and fought for a believe stood and fought for many years so today we still have Christianity in our society and followers who preach and let the world know how God wants things.   Also how churches and monasteries came about and purpose for them.   Its pretty interesting to find out the background of the people who brought a new world to their people and how today we still read about it and have a different point of view.
