Keys to My Goal
College requires a lot of hard work and effort to get stuff done, and some people have trouble doing that. In my experience I lacked in my school work and I didn’t put much effort into my studies. All those bad decisions of mine caused me to get poor grades throughout high school. I’m going to put all the effort and hard work to not repeat the cycle and do well in college.

Like in high school, I wouldn’t pay much attention in class I always did other things like going to sleep or doodling. Once you get used to doing nothing, it becomes a bad habit. It then takes effect on your homework, your studies, even at home like doing chores. I tried changing my bad habits like in the book by Mike Rose, I Just Wanna Be Average. The comment made by Ken Harvey wanting only to be average was how I felt throughout school; just wanting to float by, without putting much work into it. I’ve been warned to raise my grades up and pay attention, or else, I would get kicked out. I just shrugged it off like I didn’t care, but I did care. At the end of the year, I didn’t have enough credits to stay in school so I got sent to a continuation school all because of my bad effort.

From all those decisions that I made just affected me pretty bad. This is when I realized it was time for a change. It was in the new high school that I got to put in my hard work and effort into. Little by little I was realizing things were changing in my attitude. I actually believed in myself that I can be more than average; I can be a great student if I really tried. Hard work was helping bring my credits up that I didn’t receive in my other school and my new teachers were helping me by giving me a lot of extra credit to catch up. I was like a whole new student. I actually felt like I knew what I was doing in the classroom. Catching up with school and being able to graduate with my class really changed my mind...
