Background of Mcdonald's

McDonald’s was originally started as a small hamburger stall in Bernardino, California. The business was run by brothers, Dick and Mac McDonald’s. Dick and Mac were determined to improve their business with a different approach then they closed down their business for three months and re-opened on December 1948 as a self-service drive-in restaurant. They produced a limited menu, concentrating on just a few items such as hamburgers, cheeseburger, potato chips, milk, coffee, and slices of pie. The McDonald’s started in 1954. In 1954, Ray Kroc, a Multi-mixer salesman, visited McDonald’s and he found a small restaurant but successful operated by Dick and Mac, and was stunned by the effectiveness of their operation. The brothers want to expand their business worldwide. Kroc is interested with their hamburger business and signed a franchise contract agreement with Dick and Mac McDonalds. Their first McDonald’s was opened in Des Plaines, Illinois on April 15, 1955. Kroc pitched his vision of creating McDonald’s restaurants all over the U.S.A. to the brothers. In 1955 he founded the McDonald’s Corporation, and 5 years later he bought the exclusive rights to the McDonald’s name. In 1958, McDonald’s had sold the 100 millionth hamburger and there were 34 restaurants in different locations. In 1959, however, Kroc opened another 68 new restaurants, bringing in total to 102 locations.
As years goes by, there are many other different programs, strategies and additional food items are added in McDonald’s to serve customer better. Today the McDonald’s Corporation is one of the world leading global foodservice retailer that serve approximately 68 million customers per day in over 119 countries across 35,000 locations, employing more than 1.5 million workers.
