1.1 | Identify the stages of a series of counselling sessions.There are three main identifiable stages to a counselling session that directly involve the client, although, other preparatory work is necessary for optimum conditions to create the most fertile conditions for engagement, exploration and potential growth. The supportive conditions would include the venue, room set out with necessary equipment such as tissues (which indicate the acceptance and normality of experiencing deep emotions and crying), seating placed at an angle and at a comfortable distance of around three feet apart.   Warmth, lighting, and maybe access to drinking water, also a clock, and preparations to maximise privacy, e.g. Window blinds, telephone on silent, and a Notice on the door requesting Privacy and noise reduction.   Once these preparations are taken care of, we can then look at the three stages within the counselling process, which are: the Beginning, middle and the end.   Stage one:- is generally the nuts and bolts of the agreement where the client is offered a service which adheres to policy and protocols. Whilst on the surface it is sterile and business-like, unlike most contractual agreements, there are no set terms and conditions or guarantees, and the speed and direction is controlled by the client, not the service provider.   The contract will cover signatures, important boundaries and limitations, fees and cancelation policy, frequency of sessions, and the importance of being punctual, and any communication issues or preferences, and what to do in the case of an emergency, - some counsellors also include a suicide prevention clause.
