503 Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

At place my of work, all staff have to complete the Red Crier training books, and one of the booklets that needs to be completed is Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. These are sent off to be independently marked and we are sent the results in % form. This gives us, as managers an insight into how well the staff are able to understand and the staff that we feel may benefit from extra training. This will be done in private and confidential setting so the staff member has freedom to express their concerns. Some staff may wish to talk to us about a situation as it may affect their own beliefs and ideals. These talks are done in a very compassionate and professional way and are always talked through so that the staff member and the client with whom they have a concern are both happy with the outcome that is reached. If the client is unable to make an informed choice, then a family member or appointed advocate will be present to help with the decision making. All clients have the freedom to read their own person centred care plans and are able to make adjustments to it as is deemed appropriate and viable for their care. We have policies and procedures in place to protect the client and their wishes but to also aid and protect staff in the understanding of the clients care plans and the actions and undertakings that are required for the client. All staff are involved in regular staff meetings where any areas of concern can be raised. Also, staff receive yearly appraisals where subjects and issues can be dealt with. All staff can be open and honest with us as management as we feel this creates a better working environment as no one feels worried and unable to communicate their fears. Before any client receives care from an outside professional or new member of staff, the individuals is encouraged to read their care plan so they are aware of that clients’ needs wants and interests.
