Unit 502 - Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters
Health and Safety competency at every level of the business is paramount; Directors, senior Management, supervisors and all other employees should know their level of responsibility.
The first step in providing Health and Safety information to all new starts would come at their induction. Introducing Health and Safety as part of the introduction to a new company will show the organisations commitment to Health and Safety and help the individual to understand that a level of competency for health and safety matters must be achieved and maintained.
We have an internal trainer in the company who for the most part delivers product training to our assembly operators, I met with his Manager and proposed that he used his training skills to help me deliver safety training, he agreed and I am now working closely with him developing PowerPoint presentations on Spill containment, manual handling and safe use of knifes.
Any safety training delivered is signed for by the attendees and records kept.
We also deliver an induction power point that includes a safety message from corporate this promotes the companies overall commitment to health and safety.
The company also put the trainer through his Forklift truck assessor course and he now conducts all forklift refreshers in-house.
External training courses that I have arranged to help promote a positive health and safety culture include the HSEC members on a safety reps and committees course delivered by Met-TECH.
Risk Assessment course for seven employees delivered by P&J Training.
Fire Marshal course, delivered by Chubb Fire.

OHSAS 18001 Management Systems Management Briefing To give management an insight into and lay the preparatory groundwork for the OHSAS18001 standard delivered by LRQA.
More recently I have also arranged for Met-TECH to deliver a bespoke training course for all Managers and Supervisors...
