Increasing poverty in the United States is driving more people out of work and into the use of public assistance. The world’s economy is at an all time low, increasing the number of companies and venders to file for bankruptcy. These are major events that not only affect the owners but also cause life changing events in the lives of their employees. The reduced income as left several families dependant on welfare, not to mention homeless. As a society, where does the role of the government begin with assistance and where does it end?
In every culture there is a need for assistance from the local government to its people. The assistance may come in the form of monetary support, food vouchers, Medicare, and housing placement. In the America each state has a local social service office to assist the occupants of the state with receiving the help that is needed. Other countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, and other third world countries have to depend on organization like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and other relief societies to help their less than fortunate. Morality would suggest that each government has a responsibility to its citizens to provide an environment that will be able to support and ensure that its people are properly cared for. However, conflicts within these third world country governments or lack of a solid leadership structure makes supporting its patrons very difficult. The United States on the other hand, has a federal and local government support system in place to help the needy.
Welfare in the United States is government aid intended to help families or individuals with little or no income, including the working poor. The target audience for this assistance is primarily families with children, older individuals, and those who are disabled.
