Verbs

Verbs + ing-form

Rules: There is no concrete rule for creating verbs + ing-form. It is just like irregular verbs; you just have to learn them. In order to create verb + ing-form you take a verb and follow it by another verb with an ing-form.

Example:
1) Stop eating buggers!
Sluta äta snorkråkor!
2)   Henrik enjoys singing to his mother.
Henrik tycker om att sjunga för sin mamma.

Here you see that after the verb stop or enjoy you have to follow it by a verb with an ing-form.

Verbs followed by an ing-form:
Admit (medge) dislike (tycka illa om) mind (ha något emot)
Avoid (undvika) enjoy (tycka om) postpone (skjuta upp)
Escape (smita) put off ( skjuta upp) fancy (gilla)
Practise (öva) carry on (fortsätta) give up (ge upp)
Risk (risk) quit (sluta) confess to (erkänna)
Go on (fortsätta) stop (sluta) consider (överväga)
Imagine (föreställa sig) deny (förneka) keep on (fortsätta med)
Detest (avsky) can’t help (kan inte hjälpa) can’t stand (kan inte stå ut med)
