1.1 Define person-centred values

Treating people as individuals

Making sure people have their privacy

Making sure people have access to their rights

Treating people with dignity and respect

Supporting people to be as independent as possible

1.2 Explain why it is important to work in a way that embeds person centred values

Taking into account person centered values makes me work better for the individual person, rather than imposing my own choices on them and taking away their own right to independence and choice.

1.3 Explain why risk-taking can be part of a person centred approach

Risk taking can be part of a person centred approach; this is because you are to enable the individual to achieve their potential through allowing the individual to make choices and developing their independence. If you want to achieve this then a risk must be taken.

1.4 Explain how using an individual’s care plan contributes to working in a person centred way

Using a care plan contributes to working in a person centred way because you have access to all the information you may need about the individual and can offer what is best for the individual in a way who fit the individual as best as possible.

Learning outcome 2: Be able to work in a person-centred way.

2.1 Find out the history, preferences, wishes and needs of the individual

2.2 apply person centred values in day-to-day work, taking into account the history, preferences, wishes and needs of the individual

In order to find out the information we need to work in a person centred way we firstly talk to the patient and ask them what their preferences and needs are. If the patient does not have capacity then we could discuss their needs with friends or family. Or if they have come from a care home or if they have care workers then...
