      1.2 Explain the main points of health and safety policies and procedures agreed with the employer.
Policies and procedures outline what must be done to keep the workplace safe and meet the requirements of health and safety legislations. Some of the main points are ensuring everyone is safe at all times i.e. service users, staff members and outside community members. Another main point is to ensure all staff members adhere to the company’s policies and procedures. Also that staff must attend training to keep up-to-date with the changes and knowledge of the health and safety policies and procedures. To provide and maintain safe and healthy work conditions by providing appropriate tools, equipment operation processes and safe systems of work covering all activities.

      5.1 Explain the main points of legislation that relates to moving and handling.
The health and safety at work act 1974
Moving and handling operations 1992. (As amended in 2002)
To main points of this legislation are that the company provide legal training instruction and information on how to do a moving and handling task.
Also ensure that the staff members does not put themselves, the service user or other members of staff at risk of danger or harm when moving and handling.
The employer must also provide the adequate equipment to carry out moving and handling tasks.

      6.1 Describe types of hazardous substances that may be found in the work setting.
Some of the hazardous substances found in the work setting could include cleaning products such as bleach. Bleach can cause injury to the skin as most bleaches are irritant. Clinical waste can be very harmful this is why it is emptied and cleaned twice daily. Needles are hazardous substances that can be found in the work place they need to be kept in a sharps box when they have been used and the sharps box should be kept locked away.
