Unit 107   Support individuals with multiple conditions and/or disabilities.

Outcome 1   Understand the impact of multiple conditions and/or disabilities on individuals.
1.1   Describe possible multiple conditions and/or disabilities that individuals may have.
Multiple conditions and/or disabilities that individuals may have can include mental health problems
such as bipolar, schizophrenia and depression. Physical disabilities such as, cerbal palsy, spina bifida
and muscular dystrophy. All these can develop from birth and as a person ages they can develop
other conditions such as sensory loss – Deafness, blindness and deaf blindness.
An Individual can start life without any conditions or disabilities however over time can develop
multiple problems. A person could have a stroke and loose there speech and with age could loose
there hearing. This could then lead to the individual becoming depressed.

1.2   Explain how multiple conditions and/or disabilities may have an additional impact on the individual’s wellbeing and quality of life.

An individual with multiple conditions/disabilities may require extra support with there physical and
emotional needs. This can have a big impact on a persons well being and quality of life. An individual
who has developed these conditions over time could be effected most as some aspects of there life
would change.
For example a person who may become deaf and develop arthritis could become depressed and
loose the motivation to do everyday task as they feel these conditions have prevented them from
doing such things. This could cause the individuals to loose there independence and become reliant
on others. The individuals could struggle to communicate or have a lack of appetite leaving them
feeling tired and drained. It is important to encourage individuals who suffer from multiple
conditions to lead a full and happy life.
