Safeguarding adults is adult protection act that includes any activity or work which aims to support vulnerable adults to retain choice, well-being and independence and to be able to live a free life from neglect and abuse. It is all about preventing neglect and abuse and promoting good practice.

"Safeguarding" means "providing a safeguard for" or "defending." It may also mean "shielding."

The Safeguarding Adults’ Policy and Procedure should always be used when there is an allegation or suspicion that a vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected i.e. being caused significant harm by another person or group of people. The Safeguarding Adults’ Policy and Procedure applies to all residents even if they are funding themselves or are being funded by an authority.
What is meant by “Abuse”?

“Abuse is any act or failure to act which results in a significant breach of a vulnerable person’s human rights, civil liberties, bodily integrity, dignity or general well-being, whether intended or inadvertent, including sexual relationships or financial transactions to which a person has not or cannot validly consent or which are deliberately exploitative “The Council of Europe (2002)


What is meant by “Harm”?
