Proffesional Issues and Practice

Introduction
In partnership with two friends we have opened a business providing a wide range of high quality complementary therapies to the general public. In this report I will be creating my own mission statement, codes of conduct and discussing two aspects of legislation which I think is important to running a business. I will also be discussing two regulatory bodies which I think is important the effectiveness of running a complementary therapy business.
Mission statement
A mission statement is a formal summary of the aims and values of a company, organisation or individual.
My company’s mission statement is; to provide a wide choice of high quality therapies, promoting health and wellbeing for mind body and soul.
Codes of conduct
A code of conduct is “a set of conventional principles and expectations that are considered binding on any person who is a member of a particular group” (the free dictionary, no date)
The codes of conduct for my business will be
  * You will treat colleagues and clients with respect.
  * You will have great personal hygiene.
  * You will not judge any clients or colleagues.
  * You will not discriminate against any client or colleague about gender, sexuality, race or religion.
  * You will keep work areas clean, tidy and presentable.
  * You will not swear around clients
  * You will not discuss any details about clients to your colleagues or friends.
  * You will act in a professional manner whilst on duty.
Legislation
Two aspects of legislation which I believe are crucial to my business are; Health and safety at work act 1974 and data protection. I think HASAWA is important to my business as it’s crucial to provide a safe working environment for your staff and also safe environment for clients to attend. I think data protection is crucial to my business as we want our clients to have total trust in us that we will make sure their personal details are kept safe and not shared with anyone.
