Research Problem and Purpose


      According to "United States Department Of Labor: Our Mission" (2012), they are designed “to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.”   The purpose of this research is to identify and highlight areas of unethical issues in the workplace in regards to discrimination.


      Finding a Solution
      Equal pay and compensation discrimination have become a topic of concern in our country. People are getting paid less for doing the same job as someone who is a different gender, race, ethnicity, and lives in a different location. Research is needed to determine which factors affect who and how salary differs in these different categories. Diversity is in need of improvement and/or complete development and in turn improves equality among the employees to be treated fairly by work experience, years of experience, salary, and level of education. Not by color, age, nationality, and/or gender.
      This department must evaluate different businesses to assure the rights of the American workers. The department has a dilemma with the disparity of wages between age, race, gender and location. A research study is necessary to analyses if the current wages are significantly different based on these elements. The research team developed question for this study.
Research Questions and Variables
  1. What categories does the research team collect data from to reflect income based on age, race, gender and location?

  2. How does experience and education affect the income in each category?
