PDHPE – the body in motion

Q1.

whilst Cadel Evans was in training, him and his coach would have needed to target 2 major health components cardiovascular endurance and muscular endurance. He would have also had to train 3 skill related components; speed, power and balance. In order for Cadel to achieve maximum performance in his races he would need to train all of there fitness components.

Cardiovascular endurance is the ability to pump the blood around the body to activate muscles and their ability to use them. When training for the tour de France Cadel would have needed to have maximum cardiovascular endurance as riding a bike for a long period of time is strenuous and he would have had to train himself so he could handle the high cardiovascular fitness that was needed.

Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to sustain repeated contractions against a resistance for an extended period of time. Muscular endurance would need to be at its highest for Cadel whilst training for the tour de France because in cycling the legs are constantly moving for a long period of time.

Speed is the ability of a person to execute motor movements with high speed in the shortest period of time. Cadel and his trainer would need to focus on his speed as he would have to keep a constant high speed all through out the race.

Power is the ability of muscle to release maximum force in the shortest period of time. Power is needed when riding in the tour DE France so Cadel and his trainer would have covered numerous power enhancing drills and exercises to have his fitness component at its peak.

Balance is the ability to control the body's position, either stationary or while moving. Balance was needed when riding the tour de France because Cadel was riding at a high speed for a such a long time, he would have had to position himself right and be able to hold the position properly with no problems.
