Miami School Case Study

When Miami School district announced that in the upcoming year school boundaries will be redraw because of overwhelming and unexpected increases in enrollment, raised major concerns   among students, parents, and other parties. Schools plans upsets many students because they could not stay at current location. Parents raised their opinion against school’s proposed plans . Parents are concerned about the quality of education that their children will receive, additional travel time to new location, crossing economical and cultural boundaries, and overall social affects on children. In this paper a developed plan to address stakeholder’s concern as well as styles of negotiation strategies, tactics to support the strategy, and how ethics and culture affect the decisions will be addressed.

The key stakeholders in this case are school district, students , and their parents. Other stakeholders in this scenario are   third party experts involved in redrawing the plan, local community, and vendors associated with the school.

The first step will be to identify the basic interest and concerns of each parties involved. Describing the issues or conflicts in details will help to determine the course of negotiations to reach the desired outcome. School board should be more realistic and openly try to identify and understand the main interests of the parents. Parents believe that re zoning the school will reduce the quality of education because of unknown mix environment that children’s are going to route to. By using school bus or parents simply drive them will add travel time to the are which is going to be far away to their residence. Wealthier parents may look at other alternatives such as private school rather to blend their children with lower economic grade students.
