Mba Personal Essay

After completing my MBA, I hope to achieve a senior managerial position in a large multinational corporation within the aerospace market such as General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, or Rolls-Royce. I plan to be one who provides significant advancement for such a corporation. To accomplish this, I intend to ensure I am educated, experienced, and capable of taking on stretch positions in order to continue to improve myself and the corporation for which I work.

Looking back at my recent career, I view my experience in business, military service, civil positions, and global contribution as a high-payoff path towards my long term goal. To continue my preparation, I intend to acquire the educational background necessary to be successful in increasing positions of responsibility and to maintain a part-time military career and successful family relationships.

As an officer in the United States Army, I’ve been fortunate enough to find mentors from varying walks of life. Recently I discussed my career plans with Colonel Adam Roth, Director of Reserve Affairs for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington D.C. He helped me realize that in order to meet my career goals, I need to develop in three areas: management concepts, diverse executive level experience, and international networking. Based on my research and discussions with Carlson MBA alumni, I am convinced Carlson is the best path for me to cultivate all three areas.

Pursuing a MBA at this point in my career is optimal as it will allow a seamless transition from middle management to senior management. Within my current company, I’ve been able to grow tremendously and been promoted to increasingly challenging roles within middle management. As part of my short term goals, I plan to move from a Program Manager to a Director level role within the next three years.
