Leadership 101 is a short course to teach what we need to know about leadership.   The book contains the basic essentials from the author’s thirty years of leadership experience by identifying the few traits every leader should develop.   The author points out that every person influences many other people throughout their lifetime and this book will help us to develop our leadership ability and ultimately our professional and personal success.
Part 1:   The Development of a Leader
Why Should I Grow as a Leader?
Law of the Lid.   “Leadership ability is the lid that determines a person’s level of effectiveness.   The lower an individual’s ability to lead, the lower the lid on his potential.   The higher the leadership, the greater the effectiveness.”
The Story of Dick and Maurice McDonald.   Effective restaurant owners who understood how to run a business efficiently, but who could not translate that into successful franchising due to the fact they were not leaders.   The McDonald brothers soon teamed with a true leader – Ray Kroc who worked tirelessly, long hours and at times with no pay to open hundreds of McDonald franchises.   In 1961 he bought the exclusive rights to McDonald’s from Dick and Maurice McDonald for $2.7 million.   Today there are more than 21,000 restaurants in at least 100 countries.
Leadership has a multiplying effect on your overall effectiveness.   No matter how successful you are on a scale of 1 to 10, you will be more effective simply by increasing your leadership skills on a scale of 1 to 10.

As a general rule, to change the direction of an organization, change the leadership.   If your team is losing, hire a new coach, etc.   Per the Law of the Lid, to reach the highest level of effectiveness, you have to raise the lid, one way or another.   However, firing the leader is not necessarily the only answer.   You can also try to raise the lid.
