John Proctor is a Puritan that lives in Salem, Massachusetts. He is a farmer and barely goes to church. He has a wife named Elizabeth Proctor, and three sons. John Proctor is a well put together guy. He is one of the brightest citizens of Salem. He gets along fairly with the other villagers even though at times he can be short tempered. John Proctor is a man who can see through deception. He is one of the men people trust and can obtain help from.
John Proctor may be a nice guy, but at times he can have quite the temper. If things don’t go his way he will do almost anything to get how he wants them. His short temper doesn’t help him either; he tends to beat his wife and his servant Marry Warren.
John Proctor even made a life changing decision that not only affected his relationship with his wife Elizabeth, but the relationship with most of villagers of Salem. He had an affair with Abigail Williams. Since Abigail was the mastermind behind the Salem Witch Trials and has almost a everyone wrapped around her fingers Proctor made a decision that will ultimately change his life for the worst. Abigail believes that John Proctor loves her and will do anything for them to be together. Even have Elizabeth killed. Proctor does not love Abigail, he tries to tell her but she believes he is lying and that Elizabeth is in the way. Elizabeth finds out what happened and is not so shocked she somehow knew, but when Proctor finally admits what he did she is devastated. Abigail makes up a whole story and lie accusing Elizabeth of being a witch. Proctor becomes furious and tries his best to get Elizabeth to forgive him and clear her name of being a witch. John Proctor is a man of his word and believes a man has only his name, and that if a man has a bad reputation they are nothing.
Proctor has to attend court to clear Elizabeth’s and his name. Elizabeth is sentenced to death through the fact she was found guilty and so was John Proctor. This could have been...
