• The internet is a form of social media. The internet is used for a number of different things. It is a way to communicate with loved ones who are far away, though video chat, email, online phone calls and instant chat messages. The internet is used to broadcast worldwide news and as a mean of broadcasting emergency procedures. It has also become one of the largest advertising businesses in existence today.
• Social networking sites have become a very popular form of media. Facebook and Myspace gives individuals the opportunity to set up a personal profile about themselves, giving access to everyone on the internet or one can make it private only for those on one’s friends list to see. Social networks gives people the opportunity to re-connect with friends and family whom they have lost touch with.
• Blogging has also become very popular in recent years. Blogging allows individuals to express themselves by writing about personal issues, life experiences or anything that might provide some sort of outlet. They get feedback from fellow readers and followers, which encourage them to continue blogging.
• Instant messaging gives people the opportunity to communicate with people around the world without the high prices of phone bills. Instant messaging differs from social networks and blogging because it is real time. It only allows one to have a written conversation with people who are currently online at the same time.
