Introduction
Those working with children and young people are likely to encounter numerous incidents during their careers, which require a basic knowledge of first aid. Children and young people are prone to accidents as their physical coordination and understanding of risk and danger is still
developing. Childcare practitioners are often the first onto the scene and need to be able to calmly and effectively deal with the situation. In this unit’s assessment, you will be introduced to the role of the paediatric first aider. You will learn to assess an emergency and to provide basic
first aid for a range of possible scenarios.
