Assignment 1: Essay

Assignment Aims and Requirements
You are required to write an essay of between 1,500 and 2,000 words in length. The assignment is worth 50% of your mark for this module. Please note that all citations need to be referenced and your essay must contain a List of References.

This assignment aims to develop your ability to:

  * analyse and deconstruct theories and concepts;
  * critically engage with ideas;
  * make and sharpen distinctions between approaches, arguments and concepts(idea needs to be defined. B, usually contested );
(difference and similarity)  
  * apply theories to your current and future studies.

Assignment Topic
Drawing on the foundation laid in the first two weeks of this module, you are required to select a theorist who represents a particular research paradigm and discipline or field which is relevant to your current and future studies. You are then required to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the work and thinking of this theorist, and to assess the contribution of the theorist to your field of study.

Structure:
1. Present the theorist, the theorist and his/ her work. Outline the key terms/ concepts and explain the theory. 30%
2. Evaluate strengths and weaknesses (mainly use other’s critic). 40%-50%
3. Link to current/ future studies. 20%-30%

Sources:
1 or 2 books of the author, articles, 2 or 3 other people’s review (go for articles)

Submission Requirements
You will need to submit on Turnitin through Moodle, print an electronic copy of the Turnitin report and submit this with a word processed copy of your assignment.
