2. The importance of equality and diversity in adult learning
Achieving equality and embracing diversity are vital to the ethos at the heart of adult learning, which is to:

      * help all who are motivated to learn to achieve their goals
      * be inclusive of, and accessible to, all who wish to further their learning
      * respect and celebrate the diversity of individuals and groups; and
      * further social justice and social cohesion.

The equality and diversity ‘terrain’ is complex.   It changes and develops on a regular basis.   This document distils some of the current policy, thinking and legislation into accessible and straightforward guidance for you and your organisation.
