Dress Code

A sigh of relief overwhelms me as I wake up at 6:10 in the morning. Historically, I've gotten up at 5:00 A.M. to get ready for school. All of a sudden it's like the five tons of brick have been taken off my weak shoulders. I walk to my closet where lies the one set of clothes I will be wearing for the rest of the school year. This coming year, the school board is deliberating on whether or not to make students wear uniforms. I believe students should wear uniforms to prevent them from violating the dress code. Parents can save money, there would be a decrease in students that get in trouble, and lastly there would be a stop to bullying.
If the school board decides to switch to uniforms, a benefit would be that parents could save substantial amounts of money. As an effect of informal dress, parents could come close to spending around $1,000 at the beginning of each year. Teenagers tend to buy trendy brands, and that can cause the expense of clothing to sky rocket. If the school board does decide to switch to uniforms, parents could save that extra money and put it towards something beneficial like college funds, or school funds. Kids have always made it a point to go out and buy clothes for the new school year. With there being uniforms, they would only have to buy one set of clothes as in oppose to buying ten sets of clothes.
Along with the benefit of saving money by switching to uniforms, there would also be a decrease in students that get in trouble. Statistics show that kids who are dressed formally don't act up as much as one would otherwise. In other words, there would be fewer students in ISS, OSS, and/or detention for ridiculous reasons. Additionally, teachers wouldn't be screaming repeatedly at students to either pull up their shirts or pants. When kids dress nicely, they also tend to focus more.
