Death Or Life?

Here Capulet is telling Montague that he will build a statue of gold next to Juliet’s in Verona. Capulet is known as an ignorant person and he has little tolerance for anything that goes against his word. It is clearly evident that he has had a change of heart. Before, the thought of a Montague would make him very angry. When he says “poor victims of our enmity” he is referring to Romeo and Juliet. He is saying that they died from Capulet and Montague’s hate. This shows that death is more important than life because it took these two people to die in order for Capulet to realize his stupidity and hate. Death opens eyes to reality.
Juliet pretending to die took her out of misery. When Juliet is about to drink out of the vial she states, “ What if this mixture do not work at all?/ Shall I be married then tomorrow morning?/ No, no this shall forbid it…” ( Shakespeare 96). Juliet is asking herself about the credibility of the potion. She knows whether or not the mixture may work, so she questions it. Once Juliet drank the potion, she ended up appearing dead. Even though she didn‘t appear dead to the audience, everybody in the play thought that she was dead. This cause her not to marry Paris and lead here out of misery. If it is really thought about, what happened if the potion failed? Does that mean that she still has to marry Paris and be miserable. It is evident that she doesn’t want to marry him when she says “ No, no this shall forbid it. This shows that death is more important than life because according to Cousins, what dies emotionally for you is the greatest lost in life. If she would have stayed alive, then Juliet would have to marry Paris and die inside.
Romeo and Juliet dying brought about peace.
