CYPCORE 3.3 5.1 – Explain different types of bullying and the potential effects on children and young people.
Amy Williams

There are many different types of bullying that take place. The 4 main types are physical, this may include hitting someone, tripping them up or pushing them over. To be a bully this will happen on more than one occasion. Another type of bullying is verbal, this will include name calling and nasty comments. There is also emotional bullying, this may include dirty looks towards someone, constantly making someone feel small or telling someone that everything is their fault and that nobody loves them. Lastly there is cyberbullying, this will include people making anonymous social media accounts and posting hateful and nasty things about someone and it could also include humiliating picture or videos. There are also specific types of bullying which tend to be aimed at a certain group of people. Some examples of this would be:
  * Bullying related to race, religion or culture
  * Bullying related to SEN or disabilities
  * Bullying related to appearance or health conditions
  * Bullying related to sexual orientation
  * Bullying of young carers, looked-after children or otherwise related to home circumstances
  * Sexist or sexual bullying

Bullying will have an effect on the victim. They could potentially develop an anxiety disorder which could then lead to depression and then could possibly result in suicide. The child or young person may become very withdrawn, may isolate themselves from other children and friends, have very low self-esteem and have confidence issues. The child or young person could also begin to hate themselves and have a lack of interest in school and friends. The child or young person may not even want to turn up to school anymore or even partake in group activities.
