1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work
In a team working with children and young people, effective communication is essential to ensure that we all work together to create the best provision for them.   Effective communication is a two way process.   To communicate effectively it is important that you are very clear about what you are trying to say and that the person that you are talking to understand what is being said.   Overall if people are given clear information they will be more likely to understand your point of view or the message that you are giving them.   Effective communication is beneficial if you have a rapport with the child or adult who you are talking to.   When talking to a child, give the child time to understand what you are saying and give the child time to respond.   Use age appropriate language and use open ended questions such as ‘What’, ‘Why’, or ‘How’.   Using pictures to communicate such as a visual timetable is also beneficial especially if a person has a hearing impairment.   Ensure that you show respect by the way you talk, and where you talk will help children feel respected and they will develop a trust with you and therefore fell more comfortable to communicate with you.   This will have a positive effect in their learning and development, as they will feel safe in the setting.   When talking to a parent show them that you know their child and be very clear about what you are saying.   Give the parent time to absorb information...
