Ethics in a Healthcare Setting
According to Garrett & Garrett, (2010) “ When the study of ethics is applied to a professional field, it becomes necessary to discuss not only basic ethical positions, but also the nature of the profession and the conditions under which that profession operates” (p. 1). The evolution of health care will continue to change, grow and will create a dilemma in many situations in which health care professionals and their patients are faced with making ethical decisions. In this paper, we will discuss the organization Intermountain Health Care along with their mission statement, code of conduct and their core values for offering quality care based on good principals. Intermountain Health Care offers ethical medical services to a diversity of backgrounds and culture reflecting the roles and importance of ethics within a corporation.
Intermountain Healthcare Foundation is a non-profit, community based hospital.   It serves its community and schools.   It has different programs for the community such as community clinics and urgent care clinics that serves local residents and the homeless.   The intent for the urgent care clinics is to reduce costs for each individual so they would not have to incur costs of emergency room visits.   They also fund school clinics; the school provides the space while they provide the clinic and services.   With the school clinics, they serve the students, their parents, and patrons of the community.   This foundation seems to provide care to all aspects of the community including cultures, ethnicity, and those in financial hardship. “The culture of a health care organization, whether big or small, plays an important role in the ethical decision-making it undertakes, according to the Ethics Resource Center.
