SECTION 1: BACKGROUND
      1.1. INTERPRETATION OF TINA’S STORY
Tina is an 11year old girl who is a student in my class. She has been through a lot in her short life that not all children of her age might have been exposed to. Her mother brought her up as a single parent since her father left them when she was three years old. Without her father Tina did not experience safety and stability in her home especially because her mother blamed her for her father walking out on them. Tina’s mother has married John’s father, she’s trying so hard to make it work with the new family that she is not paying any attention to her daughter who is being sexually abused repeatedly by her step-brother. Tina is now re-experiencing trauma from when her mother blamed her when her father left them. She’s afraid to tell her mother because she might blame her again and accuse her of not making an effort with the new family and trying to divide the family that she’s trying so hard to build. Tina is expecting protection from her mother but instead she feels her mother will betray her trust again. She experiencing some cognitive effects like avoidance (where she tries her best to avoid any encounter with her step-brother), indecision (she is undecided whether or not to tell her mother about the sexual abuse by her step-brother), social effects like feeling vulnerable and being distant, fear of certain comfortable people or places (she is not comfortable in her own home fearing the abuse by her step-brother who should be protecting her) as well as poor peer relationships ( Tina attempts to protect herself from his step-brother’s abuse by avoiding him. Tina feels comfortable to talk to her teacher to help her deal with and cope with her trauma.
