Catapult

Catapults were one of the most effective weapons in siege warfare. The Greeks, Romans, and Chinese have all used various types of Catapults. The first catapults were made to increase the range and power of a crossbow, Catapults were first introduced to Europe during the Middle Ages, at that time siege warfare were really common. This made catapults an essential, as catapults can throw object over the castle wall to cause maximum damage. Catapults were also involved in the first chemical warfare. Diseased human and animal bodies were thrown over the castle wall in attempt to inflect the people inside the wall.

There are 3 main types of catapults, the ballista, the mangonel, and the trebuchet. My design is base on the mangonel, it is the most common type of catapult during the medieval time. It is basically a giant wooden spoon to throw large objects. Unlike my design, the mangonel uses rope to create energy for the arm to move instead of using rubber band cause well they don’t have rubber band at that time and rubber band are probably not going to be able to move a giant wooden spoon.

The catapult shows that it is really harsh during the medieval time. Wars were so common that war machines such as the catapult were created only to destroy the enemies. It also shows that people during the that time were very smart and crafty, even with the low level technology, they were able to create such compacted machines so I came to the conclusion that the medieval people were very creative even through they used it for the wrong cause.
