Black Death

Guy de Chauliac, one of the most famous doctors in the 1300s is suggesting that there were two causes of the Black Death. Firstly, the general cause being when the planets Saturn, Jupiter and Mars are in close proximity to one another. This signifies wonderful, terrible or violent things are to come. Secondly, the particular cause is suggesting that the cause of the disease is the state of the person’s body, e.g. bad digestion, weakness and blockage. I think the second part of this source (the Particular Cause) is reliable because it is more likely that people who already had problems such as bad digestion, weakness or blockage had less immunity, making it easier for the person to catch infections.

Whereas, people who already have “evil humours” (toxins) in their body catch the disease. I think this source is a non-reliable piece as anyone could catch the disease whether they were already ill or not.
