In United Kingdom every year over one million children under the age of 15 are involved in accidents in the home according to the Home Security. Accidents involving children dramatically affects parents and carers. This essay points out the three main types of accident involving children in the home: falls, scalds and burns and poisoning.
First, falls is a very common type of accident involving children in the home. In the United Kingdom (Home Security). Falls happened from windows, balconies and stairs. Falls can prevent children from interacting with others or may have a dramatic impact of their future. Parent and carers can prevent accidents involving falls from happening by fitting safety gate at the top and bottom of the stairs and never leave clutter or toys on the stairs.
Second, scalds and burns is another type of accident involving children in the home. In United Kingdom each year 37,000 of children are injured in burns and scalds accident (Bristol). Scalds and burns happen by hot drink spillages. Scalds and burns can scar a child for life. Parents and carers can prevent accidents involving scalds and burns from happening by never holding a hot drink and a child at the same time, and put hot drinks out of reach of children.
Third, poisoning is also another type of accident involving children in the home. In United Kingdom over 36000 children receive treatment for poisoning, or suspected poisoning accidents every year according to Home security. Children are often poisoned from medicines and household products. Poisoning can affect a child’s breathing and cause other health issues. Parents and carers can prevent accidents involving poisoning by keeping medicines and chemicals out of sight and reach of children.
